Basic concepts
Phone: The word ‘phone ’means sound.  It is derived from the Greek language.-
Phoneme: The word ‘phoneme’ means an individual speech sound.
Phonetics: ‘Phonetics’ is the study of the speech sounds of all languages in general.
Phonology: ‘Phonology’ is the study of the sound system of any particular language.

Phonetics is concerned with the production, transmission and reception of speech sounds.
  Types of Phonetics:
o   Articulatory  Phonetics: The production of speech sounds by the organs  of speech.
o   Acoustic Phonetics: The transmission of sound

o   Auditory Phonetics: Reception and interpretation of speech sounds.
